However, with time, there is the chance that your Minooy leather bag would break or be damaged due to any unforeseen circumstances.

If that is the case, then do not worry for we have you covered!

However, the first thing to understand in every scenario is the cliched phrase “prevention is better than cure”; the careful cleaning and preservation of your high-quality leather goods always help to not only extend the lifespan but improve their quality.

The first step in any scenario of fixing your bag seems very insignificant, but in reality, is the most important:

1.Cleaning your bag thoroughly.

The cleaning process does not require much effort. All you need is a white/clean cloth, some warm water, and if you’re willing to go the extra mile, a leather cleaner.

All you need to do is to initially wipe down the whole bag with your damp cloth to get rid of any obvious dirt. Then, use your cloth to gently rub the leather cleaner into the leather.

Once done, then dip your cloth in the water and wipe the leather cleaner off. Make sure to repeat this step so that you don’t end up with any residue from the cleaner.

This step will help to remove all the dirt and gunk that has settled on your bag that is not usually visible to the naked eye. In addition to that, it also helps you to see exactly what it is that you are going to be repairing.

Once your bag has dried, now you can move on to the fixing process.

2.Catering Scratched or Cracked Leather

Getting your bag scratched is usually not a big deal, as they are part of the regular wear-and-tear that occurs daily. These minor scratches and cracks are not usually a big deal, and if remain on a minor scale even contribute to adding a great patina to your bag.

However, if the scratches become deeper or cracks more serious, this can become a distraction from the true essence of the beauty of your bag.

This can be countered in a few easy steps, which are as follows:

Things you’ll need:

  • A clean, damp cloth
  • Toothpick/Thin needle
  • Leather Conditioner
  • Leather Glue

What you need to do:

  1. Once your bag has been cleaned, the leather conditioner is your go-to weapon to repair almost all casual cracks or scratches. However, it is to be noted that depending on the intensity of the cracks, you might need to rub several coats of the conditioner into the surface to target some of the more damaged areas.
  2. For the deeper cracks, gently bend the leather to expose the inner side of the crack. Dip the toothpick or needle into leather glue to get a small amount on them. Apply this glue to the inside surface of the crack.
  3. After applying the glue, flatten the leather so that the edges of the crack are pressed together where they belong. This will glue the sides together and, in most cases, is all that needs to be done to make that crack disappear as if it was never there!
  4. Once the glue dries, repeat step 1 for extra protection to ensure that no damage happens remains.
  5. Restoring faded leather

Oftentimes when your bag would be left in the sun for too long or would have endured uneven wear, you might notice some undesirable fading of its leather.

Thankfully, we have outlined a few easy steps about how to restore color to your leather.

However, one thing to be kept in mind is that you will have to pay close attention so that your high-quality polish is of the same color as your leather. If that isn’t the case, it might lead to a deterioration in the color and overall look of your bag even further.

Things you need:

  • Clean, white cloth
  • Leather Cleaner
  • Leather Conditioner
  • High-quality Leather Polish

What you need to do:

  1. Just like with any other process, clean your bag with a leather cleaner to prepare it for its restoration. After this has been done, gently massage an equal amount of quality leather conditioner on it. Wipe away any excess that might be seen.
  2. Once you have settled on your choice of color for your leather polish, use a clean, white cotton cloth to apply to polish on the areas of faded leather. If you do not receive your desired results on the first application, do not worry. Sometimes it might take three or four applications to achieve your desired coverage. After touching up faded areas with the polish, let it soak in for about 15-20 minutes before moving on to the last step.
  3. If you do not feel that you received the color you wanted, repeat step 2. However, if you DO achieve your desired color, use a clean rag to rub off excess polish, and Voila! You will have your bag good as new!
  4. Solving the issue of Peeling Leather Edges

Even the highest quality leather handbags can have peeling edges on their straps or corner areas. This is because the finish for these areas has been worn off. Areas with a lot of flexing are the most vulnerable to this. However, such spots can easily be repaired with leather paint.

Things you’ll need:

  • Small Paintbrush
  • Leather Paint (in a color that matches your handbag)

What you need to do:

  1. Clean your bag, as in any other scenario.
  2. Apply a very minute amount of paint using the paintbrush on the damaged spot and allow it to dry.
  3. For edges such as on straps, several coats of paint might be needed. But make sure to let every coat dry before moving on to apply the next.

These methods will help you to fix most of the problems you might face with your favorite handbags. However, keep in mind that some damages are too intricate and might require a professional to fix them, who will make your bag look good as new!
